Childern & Youth
  • Children's Worship: During the morning worship services, children (ages 3 - 2nd grade) are invited to a worship service of their own with materials and songs designed for them. Ages 3 - Kindergarten meet every week; 1st & 2nd grade meet twice a month.
  • Graceland: Our church school program, Graceland, offers classes for youth (ages 4 - 5th grade) after the morning worship services from 11:20 am - 12:15 pm during the regular school year.
  • High School & Middle School Education Classes: Religious education classes for high school and middle school students (grades 6 - 12) are offered following our Sunday morning services. Using the Faith Alive curriculum, students have opportunity to explore their Christian faith as well as other topics such as the Heidelberg Catechism.
  • Middle School Youth Group: “The Middles” meet monthly for regular meetings and fun activities. There are also opportunities for weekend retreats, local service projects, and activities with the High School group.
  • High School Youth Group: The High Schoolers get together monthly both for fun activities and regular meetings. Each year there is also a goal to experience a “life-forming event” - whether that is a local project, attending the Youth Unlimited Convention, or an international mission trip.
  • Cadets: All boys, 3rd - 8th grade, are invited to discover God through badge work, outdoor activities and other projects.
  • GEMS (Girls Everywhere Meeting their Savior): Girls 2nd - 6th grade meet to encounter God through praise time, Bible lessons, badges, crafts, and service projects.
Adults & Families
  • Small Groups: Small groups usually meet monthly and are formed for both Bible study and social interaction.
  • Up & Adams: Our men's Bible study group, called Up & Adams, meets every Tuesday morning at 6:30 am for study and prayer.
  • Ladies' Time Out: All women are invited to Ladies' Time Out, a monthly event involving activities, crafts, fun and fellowship. Ladies Time Out meets on the second Thursday of the month.
  • Fellowship Suppers: Every third Wednesday of the month (except the months of July & September) from 5:30 - 6:45 pm the entire congregation is invited to a church supper. Menus range from a traditional Thanksgiving feast to homemade soups and grilled cheese sandwiches. Everyone is encouraged to bring family, friends and neighbors to these wonderful fellowship events.
  • Church Breakfasts: On the first Sunday of the month, October - June, everyone is welcome to a church breakfast before the morning service (9:00 - 9:45 am). Our breakfast team provides a wonderful selection of menus to help you wake up and prepare for worship.
Pastoral Care
  • Visitation Ministry: The Visitation Team at First Church is made up of volunteers from the congregation who provide basic Christian encouragement and care to those members with special needs.
  • Prayer Ministry: Our Prayer Ministry consistently calls our congregation to prayer through a Prayer Chain and by offering special Prayer & Healing Services throughout the year. The children in our congregation are each connected with a Prayer Partner who pledges to pray for any need or concern their “prayer buddy” may have. We also have a Prayer Room open to all those who need prayer for any spiritual, emotional or physical need. The Prayer Room is staffed with Prayer Partners every Monday evening at 7:30 pm.
  • Helps Ministry: Our Helps Ministry is a program made up of members of the congregation who volunteer the use of their specific gifts and talents to help other members in need. If you need help with meals, yard work, transportation, assistance with household maintenance or chores, or even if you just have a computer question, help is just a phone call away.
  • Health Ministry: Our Health Ministry Team strives to promote health and wellness to the congregation by offering programs such as monthly blood pressure screening and by encouraging healthy lifestyles through activities like “Walk Across America.”
Outreach
  • Missions: The Missionary Support Team encourages the congregation to be faithful with their prayers, finances, and other means of support for our various missionaries. We strive to have our members know the missionaries and what they are experiencing by publishing letters and pictures received from them, through bulletin board displays, and by arranging for missionaries to visit and share with the congregation about their work. Members of the congregation are also encouraged to experience missions first-hand as workers on short or long-term mission trips.
  • Bibles for Grand Haven: Bibles for Grand Haven is a ministry of our church that distributes copies of the New Testament to area businesses and organizations in order to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. Volunteers from the congregation highlight specific scripture passages before the Bibles are delivered and they are on hand to answer questions or provide further information about our church and the Christian faith to the recipients of these Bibles.
  • Appliance Ministry: Our Appliance Ministry is a combined effort of our Deacons, congregational volunteers, and Love, INC of Grand Haven. This ministry provides donated, used appliances to those in need in our community, as designated by Love, INC.
  • Neighborhood Intercessors: The First Church Neighborhood Intercessors group is made up of congregational volunteers who go out into the church neighborhood to provide residents with information about our church and inquire about their specific prayer needs. Most importantly, our volunteers then dedicate time to pray for these neighbors of First Church.
