DIRECTOR OF YOUTH MINISTRIES:

Located on the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan, First Grand Haven is prayerfully seeking a Director of Youth Ministries. We are looking for someone who is a compassionate and caring person who is able to minister to and disciple young people in their spiritual growth. JOB DESCRIPTION

​

 

The Youth Director works to develop and implement discipleship programs and activities which  promote a relationally-focused ministry, all for the purpose of God’s glory and seeing young people center their lives in Jesus.  This position focuses on middle and high school students.

Qualifications:
 

1. Shows evidence of godly character, sincere commitment to Christ, and a dedication to the advancement of the kingdom of God. 

2. Has a passion and excitement for:

   • Leading and encouraging youth to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. 

   • Motivating and encouraging FGH members to use their God-given talents and abilities in ministry with the youth. 

3. Is in agreement with and committed to the beliefs and doctrinal statements of the Christian Reformed Church.  

4. Is or will become a member of First Grand Haven CRC. 

5. Is committed to the mission and vision of First Grand Haven CRC.

6. Has educational background and/or work experience specifically in areas of youth ministries.  A Bachelor’s degree is preferred. 

7. Is a compassionate and caring person who is able to minister to and disciple young people in their spiritual growth. 

8. Has the ability and desire to meet and connect with youth.

9. Is an effective communicator with strong organizational and interpersonal skills. 

10. Seeks continued education (formal or informal) for the development of their skills and for the effectiveness of this ministry.

11. Must be able to work well in a collaborative team atmosphere.

Responsibilities:
 

1. With the assistance of volunteers, plan and lead regularly scheduled discipleship-oriented gatherings & activities for middle school and high school youth groups.

2. Plan and implement outreach programs and events that help the church connect with youth and families outside First Grand Haven Church.

   • Including retreats, mission trips, and other opportunities. 

3. Nurture and implement First Grand Haven’s commitment to include youth in the full life and ministry of the church, engaging them in service, outreach, and mission opportunities; prayer, worship, and discipleship activities; fellowship and other church events. 

4. Encourage and mentor youth in their faith journey, being instrumental in their public professions of faith. 

5. Recruit, equip and lead volunteer youth leaders for middle and high school youth programs. 

6. Maintain regular communication with youth, parents, and congregation regarding youth ministry. 

7. Lead fundraising initiatives, as needed, for youth activities, e.g., short term mission trips, in coordination with and assistance of the larger church body, staff, and teams.

Administration & Terms of Employment:

​

1. Position reports to Pastor and is evaluated by Pastor/Executive Team/Council and is governed by the church’s staff policies.

2. Adhere to and enforce the Child Protection Plan in church-sponsored youth activities. 

3. Will receive necessary clerical support provided by the church secretary.

4. Position may be part-time or up full-time – 40 hours/week. 

5. Continuing education in appropriate fields of ministry is encouraged.

6. Pay adjustments normally considered on an annual basis.
